The Matcha bowl ( also known as the 'Chawan' ) is a ceramic bowl used to prepare matcha in a traditional Japanese Ceremony (known as sadō/chadō (茶道) This translates as "The Way of Tea.")
The rustic design is one of harsh beauty, often referred to by the Japanese as "Wabi- Sabi" which is to appreciate beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete." hence the sometime unfinished looking design of the matcha bowl.
